Complete Recovery for Wet Basements and Lower Levels
Water naturally moves toward the lowest part of a property. Once it reaches a basement or below-grade room, it can collect beneath flooring, enter wall cavities, damage stored belongings, and remain against porous structural materials.
We evaluate the water source and affected materials before beginning restoration. Our team removes accessible water, maps the moisture, clears materials that cannot remain, dries the structure, and prepares the affected area for repairs.
Basement water damage services we provide
- Lower-level damage inspections
- Standing water extraction
- Moisture detection and mapping
- Damaged-material removal
- Contents-area evaluation
- Surface cleaning
- Air-mover placement
- Commercial dehumidification
- Structural drying
Is Water Still Affecting Your Lower Level?
A basement does not need to contain deep standing water to have serious moisture damage. Water can remain behind finished walls, beneath flooring, around storage areas, and inside structural materials.
Signs professional restoration may be needed
Standing water remains on the floor
Accessible water should be removed so the flooring, walls, contents, and underlying materials can be inspected.
Lower walls are stained or soft
Discoloration, bubbling paint, damaged plaster, or softened drywall can indicate moisture inside the wall assembly.
Flooring is lifting or becoming loose
Warped boards, loose tiles, wet carpet, and soft areas can indicate water in the underlayment or subfloor.
A musty odor has developed
Persistent damp odors can come from wet drywall, insulation, flooring, cabinets, or stored belongings.
Humidity and condensation have increased
Condensation on cool surfaces can indicate that wet materials are continuing to release moisture into the air.
How We Restore a Water-Damaged Basement
We prepare the restoration plan around the water source, affected materials, amount of moisture, accessibility, and construction of the lower-level space.
We assess the affected area
We determine where the water entered, which rooms and materials are damaged, and whether standing water remains.
We map the moisture
We check walls, flooring, cabinets, stored areas, framing, and connected materials to identify how far the water spread.
We extract accessible water
We use professional extraction equipment to remove standing water and prepare the space for cleanup and drying.
We remove damaged materials and dry the structure
We remove approved materials that cannot remain and install air movers and dehumidifiers.
We coordinate approved repairs
After drying, we restore damaged walls, flooring, insulation, cabinets, baseboards, texture, and paint.

Sam and Ali were absolutely fantastic to work with. From the very beginning, they were professional, thorough, and incredibly communicative. They came out multiple times to assess the situation and provided a detailed, transparent quote that clearly outlined the scope of work—no hidden fees, no surprises. What really stood out was their honesty and the time they took to explain everything. The level of detail they provided gave us full confidence in their knowledge and capabilities. They were easy to talk to, responsive, and clearly dedicated to helping their clients understand every step of the process. If you're looking for a company that is reliable, transparent, and truly knows their stuff choose A/S general contracting. I 10/10 recommend them.

A/S general contractor was recommended by a friend and so glad I went with them. They were able to come in and remodel our house after a flood and it far exceeded my expectations. They turned a stressful situation to easy and stress free for us. Special shoutout to Sam, for keeping things honest and straight forward. I knew what I was getting from the get go and if I had any issues he was able to correct them within the hour. Sam is detailed oriented and you can he shows that he cares about the customers by his actions.

Two years after the “shoddy” work they performed we are having to completely replace the flooring. They shot pin nails into laminate flooring but that isn’t the worst part. The patchwork they used to lay a sub floor was crap. They know what they did. They all like to agree and blame the homeowner for whatever goes wrong. One tone even suggesting they because we live in a “trailer house,” the floor would never be perfect. Well now we see clearly what kind of a pieced together project they did, we now have someone who is fixing this fiasco! Don’t use them

We had a major water leak that required us to file a claim through our insurance company, and our plumber referred us to A/S General. From the very beginning, Greg and Sam were incredibly helpful, guiding us through the entire process and helping expedite everything with our insurance company. Greg, Sam, and their entire team were professional, thorough, and communicative every step of the way. The construction crew consistently showed up on time, worked efficiently, and always left the work area clean at the end of each day. Thanks to their attention to detail and quality craftsmanship, our home is now in even better condition than before the water leak. We highly recommend A/S General to anyone in need of home restoration or construction services. Thank you to the entire team for taking such great care of our home!

Requested to do the job asap. Told Sam Abraham we have house guests coming in at the middle of the week. He sent a crew to see what needs to be done. By Monday, they started fixing the damage and late afternoon, the same day, the job was done. Sam Abraham didn't promise but he produced the result. Ben L

The team has been on time, quick, understanding & professional. I can say a lot of people are not like that now and days. Sam and Travis were amazing at what they do. Need more good people like them. From somebody from the military nothing makes me happier than someone that is on time and staying true to their word. Continue the good work you do gentlemen.

Lower-Level Water Damage Across San Diego Properties
Full basements are less common in San Diego than in many other regions, but hillside homes, split-level buildings, older properties, below-grade rooms, and converted garages can face similar water problems.
Seasonal rain can send runoff toward foundations, retaining walls, exterior stairways, garages, and lower entrances. Properties near slopes and canyons can also receive water and debris moving downhill.
Coastal humidity can slow evaporation inside enclosed lower-level spaces. We consider the property’s construction, drainage conditions, and surrounding materials when preparing the restoration plan.
Lower-level areas commonly affected by water
- Basements and below-grade rooms
- Split-level living areas
- Garages and converted garages
- Storage rooms
- Lower exterior walls
- Rooms near retaining walls
- Stairwells
- Ground-level bedrooms

Basement Water Damage FAQS
What should I do first when my basement floods?
Stay away from electrical equipment, damaged walls, sagging ceilings, and water from an unknown source. Keep people away from the affected area and arrange professional water removal.
Can wet basement drywall and flooring be saved?
That depends on the water source, exposure time, material type, contamination, and amount of moisture absorbed. Some materials can be dried, while others require controlled removal.
How long does it take to dry a flooded basement?
The timeline depends on the amount of water, affected materials, size of the space, ventilation, and indoor conditions. We use moisture readings to monitor drying progress.
Can basement water damage cause mold?
Yes. Mold can develop when drywall, insulation, flooring, cabinets, framing, or stored belongings remain damp. Prompt water removal and structural drying can reduce the opportunity for growth.
Can you repair the basement after drying?
Yes. We can coordinate approved repairs involving drywall, plaster, insulation, flooring, cabinets, baseboards, texture, and paint.
